Harness Racing

Harness Racing

Harness racing – the driving of horses bred for trotting or pacing (a specialist type of action where front and hind legs on each side of the horse move in unison).

Races take place on oval grass or cinder tracks, often accompanied by betting.

This is sometimes associated with illegal road racing, where roads are temporarily “closed”; other traffic being held up by a convoy of support vehicles.

Horses bred for harness racing are sometimes cross-bred with traditional driving breeds to create good driving trials attributes.

WDDC doesn’t include harness racing in its calendar of events.
