Meeting a Wolverley member stewarding at a National Carriage Driving Trials Event at Catton Park was my introduction to club membership.

Via the horse-drawn traveller community, my first experience of driving a horse was along a residential road in Great Barr, Birmingham. From that moment I was hooked. I bought a gypsy cob from the travellers together with a simple 4-wheel cart, then later graduated to a Polish-made Wagonette with disc brakes and suspension.
Paul Chambers, who at that time was a member of the British Carriage Driving Team, was introduced to me by a friend – turned out he lived near by. Paul made me realise how much I didn’t know about driving a horse, introducing me to “outside rein” and “long reining”.
From gypsy cob I moved to a more sporty trotter cross called Frankie who was with me for 5 years. In 2015 I took the plunge taking up pairs driving with a pair of Dutch-bred Arabo Friesian, Lloyds advert sport horses which have enormous scope and character. With Clare Marley driving, we took them to National Driving Trials Qualifying level.
We never stop learning – Wolverley is a great club to help you on your driving journey.
