Wyre Forest Drive Saturday 26th April 2014

Image Image 2An early season stamina test for horses, the Worcestershire Bridleways Association (WBRA)-managed Wyre Forest has many miles of a mostly stone-surfaced forestry tracks but some softer surfaces with ruts and potholes. There are many hills to negotiate and a disused railway track giving horses the opportunity to ease off or stretch out, depending how much energy they have left in the tank. The drive took us up into the Brand Wood section – too far from the visitor centre for push chairs and umbrellas – picturesque in the spring sunshine. Better to be driving a horse than riding a mountain bike – the bikers were seriously muddy! Thanks to my groom, Jo John, for taking this short movie and to the organisers for making it a safe enjoyable 10-12 mile drive for the 11 turnouts that took part.

Thanks also to Hannah Walker who took some still shots, including one of her friend  Danielle Henderson-Holding seen riding her lovely friesian mare which rode “shotgun” for the 12.6 miles clocked by Hannah.
